How RegulatorIndex Works

Data sources, methodology, and refresh cadence for practitioners evaluating RegulatorIndex for professional use.

01

Commissioner Rosters

Source

NARUC (National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners) maintains the authoritative U.S. commissioner directory. RegulatorIndex ingests NARUC roster data and supplements it with official commission websites, governor press releases, and state senate confirmation records.

Refresh cadence

Automated monitoring runs every six hours checking NARUC, commission news pages, and Google News for commissioner changes. New appointments and departures are detected and published automatically.

02

Commissioner Watch Intelligence

Each Commissioner Watch entry includes a “Why It Matters” context note written to help practitioners understand what a personnel change signals for commission posture, policy direction, and active proceedings.

Editorial disclosure: These notes are forward-looking analytical assessments based on the commissioner's professional background, the appointing governor's known policy positions, and the commission's current docket activity. They represent practitioner judgment, not confirmed voting positions or documented policy stances.

03

State Intelligence

State intelligence pages cover the utility landscape, active proceedings, upcoming events, and commissioner context for 14 priority states. Content is researched from official commission websites, state legislative records, utility filings, and trade publications including Utility Dive, RTO Insider, and E&E News.

Refresh cadence

State intelligence is reviewed and updated weekly as part of a structured editorial process. The automated monitoring layer surfaces new developments for editorial review.

04

Active Proceedings

Proceeding data is sourced from official state commission docket systems. RegulatorIndex currently tracks active proceedings in 14 priority states with full intelligence coverage. Coverage is expanding.

05

What We Don't Yet Have

RegulatorIndex is in active development. Features not yet available include:

  • Per-commissioner voting history (in development for Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and California)
  • Intervenor tracking
  • Automated proceeding filing alerts

These features are on the active roadmap. Being transparent about what we don't yet cover is part of how we earn trust with practitioners who need to defend their intelligence sources internally.

06
